The victim (E14) was a male aged in his 40s in 2008. The victim had been arrested for sharing religious information. The victim was discovered upon arrest to own a bible. The victim was detained at Hyesan City MSS pre-trial detention centre and then transferred to Ryanggang Provincial MSS pre-trial detention centre. The victim’s spouse was not informed that their partner had been arrested, the charge, or the location of their detention. An MSS official informally told the victim’s spouse that the victim had been physically assaulted and incurred swelling and bruising on their face. The spouse was never informed of the fate of their partner. Details are withheld for the victim’s safety.
