The victim (E445) is a named female. The victim engaged in religious acts in China and was arrested at a known location in China. The victim was in possession of a bible. The victim attempted suicide during the arrest by swallowing a bottle of pills. A Chinese official assaulted the victim and repeatedly kicked her. The victim was interrogated at Dandong border detention centre for a known period and developed a serious medical condition. The victim was refouled to North Pyongan Provincial MSS detention centre and underwent an invasive cavity search conducted by male MSS officers who probed her vagina and anus. The victim was interrogated on her religious associations for a known period based on information submitted by Chinese officials. The victim was physically assaulted on repeated occasions with the shoes of MSS officers. The victim developed a haemorrhage on the right side of their head from the physical assaults and sustained a wound that contracted tetanus. The victim was denied medical treatment and the wound wept both blood and pus. During each interrogation, unnamed MSS officers would open the victim’s wound during physical assaults. If the victim cried, the MSS officers beat her again. The victim was transferred to North Hamgyong Provincial MSS detention centre for a known period. The victim was imprisoned at Yonggwang County Oro re-education camp (No.22) in South Hamgyong province and was forced to labour in agriculture (picking weeds and chopping trees in the mountains). Labour was conducted in handcuffs. The victim’s hair was shaved off in case of escape. Certain information is withheld for the safety of the victim’s family.
